TOP THREE FINALISTS

Our Community Manager took to Instagram, in the moments leading to the final hour of voting for the "Face of Men's Fashion Week LA", quoting Paul Arden: "It's not how good you are, it's how good you want to be."  Determination proved to be the ultimate equalizer in a competition where models did everything from creating their own graphics to promote themselves to sending blast emails to lobby support of their election into the final round of the "Face of Men's Fashion Week LA" 2013 spokes-model competition.

The moment that we've all been waiting for:

Hundreds of male models between the ages of 16-27 entered the competition. Only a quarter of the submissions were invited to meet MFWLA and a panel of guest judges. After a few rounds of competition, on Melrose Avenue, TEN FINALISTS were selected to go on to the Third Round of the competition. In the Third Round, contestants were put to the challenge, asking their friends, family, and fashion lovers to elect them as the "Face of Men's Fashion Week LA" 2013. Over 60,000 people were exposed to the competition and nearly 4k people voted for the first-ever "Face of Men's Fashion Week LA".

The THREE FINALISTS prevailed over their peers, making it to the final round! Today, we announce the THREE FINALISTS for the "Face of Men's Fashion Week LA" spokes-model competition: JOSUE GARCIA led with over 1,000 votes. FERNANDO DURAN was a close runner-up, and BRIAN SIBLEY beat out remaining competitors with votes in the high 900s. Josue, Fernando, and Brian will compete against each other in one final competition.

The "Face of Men's Fashion Week L.A." 2013 will be announced Monday, May 6, 2013. Stay Tuned to hear how the story ends. - MFWLA

MODELS TAKE OVER MELROSE AVENUE

On Saturday, April 13, 2013, Men's Fashion Week L.A. hosted a spokes-model competition.  The modeling competition was open to males 16-27 years old.  It was a four-hour two-phase competition held at a menswear boutique on Melrose Ave in Hollywood, California.  The contestants competed to be crowned the "Face of Men's Fashion Week LA."  The winner who will be the official spokes-model and brand ambassador for Men's Fashion Week LA is entitled to a one year modeling contract with a Modeling agency scheduled to commence at the the beginning of 2014; sponsorships including apparel, footwear, accessories, and grooming products; be the face of all media and press interviews for MFWLA for 2013; will function as a Brand Ambassador for MFWLA; featured in a magazine spread for a menswear fashion magazine; Featured on all MFWLA publications for Men's Fashion Week 2013 seasons, which includes electronic, print, and multimedia marketing and promotional materials; emcee Men's Fashion Week in June and any ancillary events ; host the red carpet at Men's Fashion Week L.A. (October).

PANEL OF GUEST JUDGES

The day began at 2:00pm.  Executive Producer (and founder of Men's Fashion Week LA), Pamela Williams, briefed the contestants on the "Face of Men's Fashion Week LA model competition festivities.  Male models arrived early, waited in line, and then the competition began.  Each model walked the runway for the panel of judges.  At the end of the runway, each contestant shared a little bit about themselves.  The day was full of laughs as the judges asked contestants everything from "What'd you do last night?" to hearing heartfelt stories of one model's breakthrough depression, and learning about one model's trip across the country as he flew in from Oklahoma City to compete to become the first-ever spokes-model for Men's Fashion Week LA.

Hasson Harris, Agency Director of Slater Model Management (aka Simon Cowell), sent some contestants home with brutal, yet insightful, consultations that is believed to help them "make it" in this industry.  Jenny Luv, fashion Vlogger, giggled most of the day with celebrity wardrobe stylist, Daniel Musto.  Daniel, who  admittedly told one of the contestants that "God brought me here this morning, to the bar last night, and I think he'll be taking me to Coachella after this competition", colored the competition with witty remark after witty remark; both charismatic and genuine, Daniel made each contestant feel comfortable opening up to the panel of judges.  Guest judge Cristian DeLuca, bow tie connoisseur, wore a leather red studded bow tie (sponsored by Bow Tie Boy NYC).  Cristian faced-off with two contestants who also had the bright idea to wear red bow ties to the competition.  And menswear designer Lloyd Klein got a good laugh when one of the models said that their favorite menswear designer was Calvin Klein, saying "You know that he only makes underwear, right?".  Imagining that the contestant leaves the house in the morning only clad in Calvin Klein briefs, Lloyd asked the contestant to take off his shirt.  And the evening went on... The chemistry among the panel could not have been fabricated; it was organic, synergistic, and made for a memorable day for MFWLA staff, each contestant, and each of the judges.

Guest Judges (from left to right): Cristian DeLuca (Buyer and Bow Tie Connoisseur), Hasson Harris (Agency Director Slater Model Management), Jenny Luv (Power 106 radio personality and Fashion Vlogger); Daniel Musto (NBC's "Fashion Star" wardrobe stylist; Style, Bravo, E!); Lloyd Klein (Menswear Designer; LKLA).

THE JUDGES DELIBERATE

With much more work to be done, evening crept upon the panel of judges. After each model walked the catwalk, the judges tallied up the total scores.  The judging criteria included a 1-5 point system.  Each candidate was judged based on five categories: overall personality, charisma, authenticity, style, and confidence.

THE RESULTS ARE IN!

Then each applicant will walk the runway.  It is okay if you do not have professional runway experience. Second Round

This is when the competition begins! There are three parts to the second round:  (1) To test your interviewing skills, immediately after the top 25 are selected, each contestant will be interviewed on the red carpet; (2) Each contestant will be asked to promote MFWLA to pedestrians, and; (3) Each contestant will shoot a 1 minute video telling voters why you should be the "Face of Men's Fashion Week L.A.".

The red carpet interview will be your opportunity to interact with selected guests.  Successful candidates are those who have the natural ability to connect with a variety of people from fashion insiders to veteran hosts/actors to celebrity friends.

Promoting MFWLA is a huge part of the Spokes-model's role.  To test your abilities to effectively promote MFWLA, the panel will watch contestants interact as they attempt to promote MFWLA to pedestrians.  A successful candidate is judged on their ability to promote and share their enthusiasm for MFWLA.  The contest details for this part of the second round will be disclosed to the 25 contestants on Saturday, March 23, 2013.

The interview/video will be a short clip where each contestant will have the opportunity to tell America why they should be the "Face of Men's Fashion Week L.A.".  Each candidate has the freedom to express themselves in any way that they would like.  This is an opportunity to attract the attention and admiration of voters who  will go online to vote for the first-ever "Face of Men's Fashion Week L.A." in the final round.

Based on the red carpet interview and promoting Men's Fashion Week L.A., the judges will select the Top 10 candidates who will go on to the third round.
